B I G  N E W S!
Our first CD

- Overserved -

was released on
March 17, 2005

"Compared to B.C.-based folk groups ...
Three Row Barley is closer to trad Celtic music... Perhaps this is because the group emphasizes vocals over instrumental virtuosity; There is a sense of purity here..."
- Tom Harrison
(The Province, Vancouver, BC, Apr. 26, 2005)

The Band

Roger BustonRoger Buston
Vocals, guitar. A dynamic, energetic and personable performer, very familiar with the West Coast Celtic scene, who enjoys nothing more than working the room. Roger has fronted many celtic sessions and the late great Quenchers.

Brian Taylor
Vocals, bodhran. Three Row Barley’s answer to David Crosby, also known as the Stealth Tenor, Brian’s ability to add the perfect harmony line is one of the band’s special ingredients.  Quiet, but dangerous…

Chris WilliscroftChris Williscroft
Bass, mandolin. Chris’ history in rock and punk bands adds a pounding beat unusual in many celtic bands.  Providing a bottom end as big as his 6’7” frame, Chris also aspires to match Roger for energy, prompting one patron to ask, ”How does he keep it all up in the air like that?”

Greg Kelly
Vocals, guitar, harmonium. Greg grew up listening to his Uncle Patrick and Gandpa Joe singing and fiddling celtic classics in the Ottawa Valley.  He is a classically trained pianist, who plays pretty much anything that makes a noise.  He's also a teacher, so there WILL be a test on this...

Special Guests

  Lorne Warr
Vocals, guitar, banjo, squeezebox.  Lorne was raised in tiny Lewisporte, Nfld., listening to his Granny's button accordion and his father's stories of ghost ships and pirates.  He sings and plays numerous instruments with TRB and his own band, The Streels.

 Mary Brunner
Fiddle.  'Dangerous' Mary Brunner is a fixture in Vancouver's celtic community, her grasp and depth of celtic music keeping her constantly busy with at least three bands, including Copper Sky among others. We are grateful for her solid, eloquent playing.

Alumni

Bruce MathisenBruce Mathisen
Vocals, rhythm acoustic guitar. A long time musician out of the ‘George V’ gang, a master of puns and a walking catalogue of folk music new, old, and older.

Our friend Bruce has retired from the band to travel the golf courses of the world.  He has been a huge support while playing and singing hard for many years.  Thanks for everything, Bruce!  Fore!

Christian BellsmithChristian Bellsmith
A veteran of Forever Plaid and The Buddy Holly Story, Christian acts, writes, sings, plays guitar and bass.  He has great stage presence and musical range. He also drinks, but hey, who doesn't?

Christian has gone back to Toronto to pursue his acting career.  See you on the red carpet, Chris!

Avery Yackel
Fiddle, mandolin. An eclectic mix of East and West, this materials engineer is studying Chinese Traditional Medicine and martial arts. Avery hails from White Rock and loves his Guinness.

Avery is now concentrating on his trance-celtic and alternative medical interests.
